The latest economic forecasts, including those from the Manufacturers Alliance for Productivity and Innovation (MAPI), bode very well for those seeking to advance their careers in manufacturing. A number of Syracuse area employers are a part of this encouraging picture.

In its most recent quarterly report, MAPI raised its forecast for U.S. gross domestic product (GDP) growth to 2.8 percent this year, up from its December prediction of 2.6 percent. • Companies will spend more on equipment and information technology to support this growth. MAPI estimates inflation-adjusted investment on manufacturing equipment to grow 6.5 percent this year and 9.8 percent in 2015. Related information-processing equipment investment will increase by 5.7 percent in 2014 and by an impressive 14.7 percent in 2015.
• Manufacturing will add 356,000 jobs in the U.S. (nearly 30,000 per month on average) this year. Next year, the sector will grow by 197,000 jobs.
